Since May 2010, all land improvement projects in Maryland are required to treat stormwater using Environmental Site Design (ESD) practices as set forth in the revised Chapter 5 of Maryland's Stormwater Design Manual. For many engineers and landscape architects, ESD requires a completely different way of thinking. Stormwater practices now have to be integrated throughout the entire site. As these new methods present challenges for site design professionals, this website is intended to help facilitate the transition by providing designers with an open source resource.
